Before we discuss what a hair transplant is, let's take a look at: (What Is Not Hair Implantation)
1. A hair transplant is NOT
the implantation of hair from another person. Doctors use your own hair during your hair transplant procedure. Although researchers
have had isolated success in using donor hair from another person in some cases that may last up to 30 days then die out, your doctor
will be using your own hair that will last a lifetime.
2. A hair transplant is NOT the implantation of artificial or prosthetic
hair. This method has been banned by the F.D.A. for numerous complications. Artificial hair implants are legal in some countries in
Europe and despite claims that they have advanced, artificial hair implants still endure a bad reputation as with a fake look.
3.
Despite Hollywood's misguided and hypocritical sense of humor, a hair transplant is NOT the implanting of "hair plugs." Hair plugs
is an old term common in the 1970s and 80s to describe hair follicular units which consisted of 12 to 18 hairs per plug
that resulted with the patient having a Barbie doll hair appearance. Image follicular units of hair implanted that were the size of
a pencil eraser - not exactly natural looking. Rest assured that hair plugs are a thing of the past despite Hollywood's myopic and
sarcastic view towards them. Even if you wanted hair plugs implanted, it's nearly impossible to find a doctor that would agree to
the procedure unless they have never furthered their education, which you have to look out for.
4. The claims of using cloned
hair is still just in the stage of wishful thinking and trying to be used by others as a sales gimmick or claim. Even if in the future
this was to really happen, there is nothing better than using your real genetic hair follicles first than a cloned copy. As we all
know that when we take a picture and lay it on a color copy machine and make another picture, the copy is never as clear as the original.
This also will happen with a cloned follicle being weak and dieing out at a later date, in and if this would ever happen. Then the
F.D.A. would have to approve this cloning process which would take about 10-15 years, if that.
Now that you understand what
a hair transplant is not, let's review a basic Modern Hair Implant Surgery Transplant Procedure. (Please note that the words hair
transplant and hair implant are used interchangeably within the same definition just for sales use only).
